Alone At Sea

For a while I practiced making sky's. Then I tried to make water with waves. I didnt succeed with the water much.
I needed something to be the subject of the painting. So of course I choose a galleon. Then I needed to learn where to put the ship and how big it should be. So I asked an artist friend of mine who had been helping to mentor me. He taught me about the rule of 3s. You can make a grid of lines like a tic tack toe grid. Then you want to put things on the cross of two lines. The lines also help show how big the subject could be. Its one third the height.
